I fell in love with Allandale on a walk with my wife. As we approached Gullett Elementary we watched parents from the neighborhood walk their kids to school. It felt a bit like we were in the 50′s. It was nice, sorta old fashioned and cool to see. That moment is my mental image of Allandales and it’s very own laid back, family vibe.
When you visit Allandale you’ll notice huge oak trees everywhere (great for shade) , a large park and pool, a second park that’s a leash free dog park and plenty of shops/ restaurants within walking distance. It’s an active and convenient place to live that hosts many of Austin’s annual running and or biking races that zip along Shoal Creek Blvd.
Hopefully this video will give you a feel for Allandale
Neighborhood Pros
- In town, hip and relatively affordable real estate
- Nice wide streets
- Beautiful Trees
- Nice restaurants nearby
- Easy access to all of Austin
Neighborhood Con’s
- The original box architecture of rectangular homes is not as sexy as the areas to the South
- Some of the original foundations need work
- Nice homes next to some that are not well maintained
Some of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat…
Phil’s Ice House (Amy’s Ice Cream next door)
