Downtown Austin

Downtown Austin — it is downtown!

Given that we are the live music capital of the world, the idea of living in downtown Austin is pretty exciting.  Imagine basically walking out the door of your building, taking a short walk and hearing your favorite local band perform live. Cool, huh?

Downtown is  a fun, vibrant, place to live, with local shops, grocery stores, live music, theaters, and excellent restaurants within an easy walk.  The way it’s shaping up, it feels like a Texas version of New York City, with Austin style. The vibe is different from the rest of Central Austin — sort of imported, but still cool and laid back.

My only caveat for downtown buyers is that we are not done with construction yet. New condos will be continuing to come on the market for sometime. Being a little short sided and protective makes me point out: If you’re going to sell while new condo’s are coming on the market, that will put you in a tough resale  position . In the longer run, I do think downtown Austin is a great investment but I want you going into it with your eyes wide open.

The Nokonah high-rise and my thoughts

Today I visited the Nokonah high-rise downtown condo’s located on 9th street where it intersects with Lamar, here in Austin of course. For the most part I am not a fan and truth be told I would not buy one with my money. Mostly this is because of the location vs. the prices. Make me…

My professional love hate relationship with Austin’s downtown lofts.

The Love When downtown Austin was cleared for residential use it was a pretty exciting idea. Now when I visit with people living downtown – it’s virtually unanimous, it’s a blast (as long as you can handle the expected noise, parking issues etc) Literally you can just go down an elevator and in some cases you can…
